I am an avid reader, and needless to say that I love books, here are some of my favourites:

  • STEPHEN KING (Needs no introduction! My idol.)
    • The Dark Tower Series - huge, sprawling, dark, 8-book fantasy series. My favourite books.

    • Lisey's Story - a heart-breaking account of love and loss, reportedly Stephen King's favourite.

    • Dr Sleep - wonderful sequel to The Shining, brilliant fantasy.

    • Under The Dome - don't judge it by the TV series, the book is much better!

    • Needful Things - excellent fantasy thriller.

  • HUGH HOWEY (Thinking of self-publishing? This guy is an inspiration to all writers. Oh and a good writer!)
    • The Wool Trilogy - Wool, Shift and Dust - awesome, awesome story. Great characters, well written, great concept.

    • Sand - fascinating idea, totally immersive, just wanted more.

  • BRANDON SANDERSON (My new found favourite!)
    • Reckoner's Series - Steelheart and Firefight (so far) - evil 'superheros' called epics, and a small band of normal humans trying to defeat them, brilliant pace, superbly invisaged, inspiring and a lot of fun!

    • Mistborn Series - Just started The Final Empire but absolutelly loving it, magic system is inspired.

  • BEKKI PATE
    • The Fragment Trilogy - The Willow Tree, so far. Scary evil creatures that bleed blue, paranormal abilities set in our world, lost main character with amnesia. Told from multiple point of views that all come together. Dark, with characters you honestly care about. Can't wait for Book 2...

  • PHILIP PULLMAN
    • His Dark Materials Trilogy - The Northern Lights (not the Golden Compass the film, the poor cousin of this beautiful book), The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass - I want a demon! And an aleithiometer too! This is such a magical, brilliant story.

  • MARGARET ATWOOD (I wish I could write half as well as Atwood!)
    • The Madd Addam Trilogy - Orynx & Crake, The Year of the Flood and Madd Addam - terrifying vision of the future, and as far-fetched as it might seem if anyone else was telling it I think we might find that sadly she isn't far off the mark - well worth a read.

    • The Handmaid's Tale - disturbing dystopia, very good.

  • TRUDI CANAVAN
    • The Black Magician Trilogy - love these stories, brilliant magic system, and world that seems so very real, characters you really care about.

    • The Traitor Spy Trilogy - follow on from the trilogy above, only makes the already richly imagined world more vivid, great stories.
